I-70 Mountain Corridor Widening

Widening six miles of interstate through a mountain corridor meant cutting back steep slopes that had been shedding rock onto the roadway for decades. The permitting timeline was fixed before the geotechnical work began, so the slope and rockfall analysis had to be right the first time.

Stratum mapped the cut slopes, drilled and logged borings along the alignment, and ran slope stability analysis for the proposed cut geometries. We then designed rockfall mitigation — catchment and slope treatments matched to the failure modes we observed in the field — and delivered a PE-stamped report to the owner and the permitting agency.

The report was accepted without a second round of investigation and the project stayed on its permitting timeline.
