Copper Basin Tailings Expansion

Raising an existing tailings storage facility meant the owner had to demonstrate to the state dam-safety regulator that the foundation soils, the existing embankment, and the tailings themselves would remain stable under the new geometry — static, seismic, and during construction.

Stratum's mining practice characterized the facility with borings and in-situ testing through the embankment and into the foundation, ran laboratory strength and consolidation testing in our own lab, and carried out stability analysis for the expansion cases the regulator required. The report was written for the dam-safety reviewer as the primary reader.
